Nina Hole (b 1941) Danish
Nina Hole trained at the Art and craft School , Copenhagen (1961-3) and later at Fredonia State College, New York (1975-7).
She is a founder member of the Danish group ‘Clay Today’ and of the Grimmahus Museum in Middlefart. She lives in a small village by the sea, surroundings that have been an important influence on her work. She is a ceramic sculptor who uses experimental firing and raku as both process and spectacle.
Sometimes she combines ceramic with other found materials including metal and glass. Recent work has been on the theme of the house and she has constructed a number of large modular slab constructions which are both house and kiln.
They create a spectacular effect during the firing and leave a sculpture at the end. She always uses a number of assistants during these events which, she feels, gives each piece a unique spirit where the process is as important as the product. Nina Hole built and fired A KILN at the IPF 1997
